It’s thundersnow hail showering – that means Spring is here!
According to the Canadian groundhogs, Spring is coming soon. According to the American groundhogs, winter is still holding on tight. They’re both wrong, because according to the insane weather going on outside my window, Spring just arrived. West coast weather is strange that way.
...
It may only be late February, but Spring is definitely in the air. Air that is currently clocking in at around 40km/h and is expected to increase to a frenzied 80km/h before the day is done. It’s driving bands of cloud along ahead of it a roman chariot racer of old, and those clouds are in a bit of a tizzy from all the rushing, dumping a volatile mix of moisture as they go flying overhead. Now the Canadian west coast isn’t known for tame weather at the best of times, but when Spring rolls around it gets just a little out of hand. Sun can change to moonsoon-like rains in the blink of an eye, and if the forecaster are to be trusted at all (which is always a dubious bet) the tulips and daffodils currently poking their heads up out of the ground are soon to have a sparkling coat of snow dumped on their delicate petals.
With any luck the snow will fizzle out or at the very least not linger, and we can get on with our other spring time traditions. Counting blossoms, celebrating Naked Bungee jumping day, and phoning our friends back east to tell them we’ve having a barbeque this weekend, how’s the weather out their way? Still snowing? Oh, what a pity.
