Online Dating Update – Week 3
The last two weeks have been a mixed bag of results, ranging from horrifyingly humorous to just damn strange. Did I get out on an actually meet? Yes, I did, but more on that later.

More than two years ago my little brother went to sleep and never woke up. His sudden and totally unexpected loss was devastating to my family, his friends and the many others whose lives he had touched over the years.
What struck me then, even in the numbness of my own grief, was how very badly some people reacted to the idea of death. As if it was an affront to their life and happiness to have to deal with it at all. We don’t’ seem to accept death at all, treating it as an enemy to be reviled, the big, dark elephant in the room that no one admits they can see. As a result of this awkward relationship we have with the Grim Reaper, we don’t know how to handle grief; ours or anyone else’s. Like kids at a high school dance we stutter, stammer, try to say the right then and invariably put our foot in our mouths while stepping on someone else’s toes.
It’s been a strange week. I’ve tweaked my descriptions several times, added another picture and gotten brave enough to actually email strangers in hopes of striking gold.
It’s far too soon to claim success or failure, but I did think you would enjoy reading about some of the stranger experiences of the past seven days. For those of you who have never had the experience of online dating, there are usually three ways to connect with someone.
Just over a year ago I bailed out of the dating pool with a speed that would have impressed many an Olympic track coach. One bad date too many left me with a yearning for time with friends, family and none of the lunacy that goes along with the grand adventure that is dating.

Now that's done I've got a yearning to binge on a heartshape box of chocolates.
I am currently working on an article (due alarmingly soon actually, but I digress) which had me researching the various celebrations of Valentine’s Day around this chunk of rock we call home. One thing struck me over and over again as I read through the information; no matter what the culture or clime, everyone seemed to stick to a few elementary rituals and practices. The tried and true combination of flowers, candy and cards reappeared time and time again. Is this really what romance has boiled down to, a hackneyed set of images from Hollywood and Hallmark? It would appear so.
Spend long enough on the internet and you’ll come across this phrase: “And the Geek will inherit the Earth.” It is the modern day battle cry of the geeks as they find others just like themselves and band together in online communities, plotting the day they take overthe world between heated debates on just when mankind can hope to create Faster than Light drives and laser swords.

Sadly due to the world's economy being tanked, my input for Blurtit has been scaled back for the time being. So only one of these a month for me to share here.
But here's the latest.
There are moments in life when the stars seem to align and angels light your day with joyous odes and rainbows; sweet, pure moments of perfection when everything is in harmony. Then there the moments where it seemed that every gremlin trickster in fairydom has teamed up with Murphy’s Law and they’re out to get you. This weekend my life was enriched with one of the latter experiences.
