It’s been a strange week. I’ve tweaked my descriptions several times, added another picture and gotten brave enough to actually email strangers in hopes of striking gold.

Just over a year ago I bailed out of the dating pool with a speed that would have impressed many an Olympic track coach. One bad date too many left me with a yearning for time with friends, family and none of the lunacy that goes along with the grand adventure that is dating.

Now that's done I've got a yearning to binge on a heartshape box of chocolates.

I am currently working on an article (due alarmingly soon actually, but I digress) which had me researching the various celebrations of Valentine’s Day around this chunk of rock we call home. One thing struck me over and over again as I read through the information; no matter what the culture or clime, everyone seemed to stick to a few elementary rituals and practices. The tried and true combination of flowers, candy and cards reappeared time and time again. Is this really what romance has boiled down to, a hackneyed set of images from Hollywood and Hallmark? It would appear so.
