At the appointed time, on the given day, Edwin rises from his prayers before a small shrine in the Talinie embassy and mounts his dapple gray charger. The Taliniean guard offers him a somber salute as he passes beneath the stone arch. Two equally somber figures in green and gold trail him as they make their way through the city to the fated meeting.

Being the first to arrive, Edwin dismounts and hands the reigns to one of the guardsmen. He quietly walks through the small park, searching the ground as he awaits the arrival of the others.

Gavin Greatbridge arrives with an affected look of boredom and disinterest with a bag of roasted nuts in his hand as he stares blankly at the scene that is about to unfold.

Edgar arrives shortly after Edwin. He gives a salute Sir Lightblade.

Looking over at the Roesone ambassador he raises his eyebrow.

"Bringing food to a duel. Is this entertainment to you, like a theater?"

"Greetings Senator Edgar and no, the Senate is theatre. This" he holds up his bag. " is lunch. Would you care for some?"

"I think I will pass."

"I do not hold any authority over you, but you should put the food away while these events unfold. This is a somber occasion, as a man might soon die in this field. Even if he is only a guilder."

He pulls back the bag. "'tis your loss Senator Edgar. They are quite tasty." He cracks down on one of the roasted nuts. "Although, they leave one's throat parched."

"Assuming he arrives."

Putting the last touch to his preparations Breghan straps his blade on his left hip, as he can hear the inpetuous roaring of the seaport activity not far from the Points East Trading embassy the memories of virtual scent of humid boat wood revivifies him. Feeling ready, and seeing that his squire has finished grooming the horses he walks toward the exit with heavy claping boot sound ponctuated by the sound of his sword clinging at the side of his greaves. Members of the household remain silent as he passes by.

In the courtyard, waiting for him are his squire and his second, two broad shouldered elinian with frank facial expression.

As Breghan passes the front door both the horsed men give him a friendly head nod. Horsing, they leave to get to the location of the duel.

Despite the many Avanese patrols and lawmen that can be seen from time to time throughout the various parts of the city, none are anywhere near the dueling-grounds.

In fact, Avanese dignitaries or law-enforcers of any kind are lacking from the area. A small group of guards turn a corner at a point, stop at the sight, and after some quick mumbling turn and leave the way they came, apparently having strict orders to stay far away from this particular encounter.

Gavin muses to the senator from Boeruine. "In Roesone, duels are legal so long as a neutral party agreeable to both duelists is present as witness."

While gauging of the opponant't party from a distance for a minute or two, exchanging a few words and some light-hearted laughs to be heard from accorss the field, probably to fight the thickness of the atmosphere, the three men unhorse. While the squire takes the three mounts by their bridle, after giving a last hand shake to his friend, Dominic walk midway in the field from the distance that separated both parties, awaiting for the competitor's second to move forward as well, arms crossed over his chest

As the laughter spills across the field, Edwin looks up to see Dominic and Breghan dismount. Shaking his head, he takes in one last look at his surroundings before kissing a small silver medallion that hangs from his neck. Tucking the small token into his surcoat, Edwin crossing the field to his own waiting horse where he arms himself with shield and hammer. He also carries a small sealed case that he hands to Edgar.

"For my wife, should Haelyn judge my claim unjust."

Nodding towards Breghan's waiting second he continues, "I am ready."

Edwin pays little attention as the seconds complete their duties, his armor creaking as he slowly swings his hammer in gentle circles preparing for the fight. His eyes remain focused on the young knight from the Points East Trading Guild as Edgar and Dominic argue over the particulars of the coming duel. How young he looked, how full of life. What a shame i'm going to have to beat it all out of him.

"Damn," Edwin mumbles as his stomach rumbles in anticipation. "I'm getting to old for this." A few more agonizing seconds pass before Edgar informs him of the terms, submission or incapacitation, terms he could live with. With a last nod to his second, Edwin steps forward to meet his opponent.

The first strike comes as a blur of steel as the young knights sword dances past Edwin's shield to leave a long gash in his shoulder. With a grunt Edwin attempts an unsuccessful counter that comes up short as Breghan dances out of range.

Faster old man, faster. Gotta be fa... "argh!" grunts Edwin as the devilish sword once again gets past his guard, throwing off his own attack as it bites into his leg.

The boy's got skills, I'll give him that. Shaking off the last blow, Edwin tucks his injured shield arm in close and sets his feat in anticipation of the next strike. It comes in the form of a blistering thrust, aimed for Edwin's heart. With a grunt, Edwin's sets his own hammer is in motion as the young man lunges, connecting solidly with the young knights helm. With a sickening thud, the young man's eyes roll back into his head and he collapses onto the ground.

For several heartbeats, Edwin looks down at the injured knight. Shaking his head, he kneels down to attend to the fallen boy.

The duel over, Gavin pulls out the bag of roasted nuts and resumes eating. In between bites, he turns to the senator of Boeruine. "In retrospect it was more sport. Good day fellow senators." He gives a polite bow and walks off.
